Intimacy Disorders

While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. And if there’s one thing we all know about relationships, it’s that they can be the source of trauma, both in things “done to us” as well as “withheld from us.” Intimacy disorders occur as a result of trauma and cause the inability to feel emotionally safe in sharing thoughts, feelings, concerns, desires, and needs with others.

This breach in secure attachments can result in shame, anxiety, low self-worth and depression. Often, addictions are a way of coping. Breaking this cycle means tapping into your true emotional self by sharing your innermost thoughts, feelings and needs with someone. That’s where our therapists excel. By letting a trained professional in, you can rebuild trust in relationships and eliminate the need for addictions.

Our Approach

Our sex addiction specialists have earned their certification in treating sex, porn and love addiction from the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. They specifically work with those who suffer with intimacy disorders and their families to outline and treat the trauma and underlying issues that lead to addiction.

Trauma Healing

Whether you were born into trauma, experienced it at some point in your life—or both—your mind and body have been physically altered. They adapted to help you survive. This is a perfect example of how powerful our bodies are. And that power will also allow you to get better.

Our training and passion is for working with adolescents or adults who are “stuck” due to trauma. That stuck can present itself as anxiety, depression, substance use, and/or behavioral addictions (such as issues with sex, porn, eating, working, exercise, money, spending, or gambling).

Our Approach

Our therapists use integrative therapy techniques such as Somatic Experiencing, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
